Hades won't open, or freezes while opening

Almost always it's updating: give it up to a minute. If the screen never shows up, or gets stuck, here's what to do in each case.

Updated on

Most of the time Hades didn't freeze: it's updating. Every time it opens it checks for a new version and, if there is one, downloads and installs it before showing you the screen. That can take up to a minute and shows a small window saying Checking for updates… or Downloading update…. Let it finish. If it's been more than two minutes, follow the cases below.

The update window got stuck

It has a deadline: if the check doesn't answer in 15 seconds, or the download stalls for 90 seconds, Hades gives up and opens with the version already installed. So even with no internet it opens — it just takes a bit longer.

  1. Wait 2 minutes with that window open, without clicking anything.
  2. If it went away and the normal Hades screen didn't show up, check the Windows taskbar (the bar at the bottom): the Hades icon may be there with its window behind another one. Click it.
  3. If a Hades - instalando atualizacao window showed up (written exactly like that, in Portuguese and without accents), titled Instalando a atualizacao, that's the new version being installed. It closes on its own and Hades opens right after.

I click the icon and nothing happens

Hades only opens one copy at a time. If it's already open (even minimized or hidden behind another window), clicking the icon again just brings the existing window forward — it doesn't open a second one.

  1. Look at the Windows taskbar and find the Hades icon. If it's there, click it.
  2. If it isn't, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, find Hades (or HadesCopilot) in the list, click it and then click End task.
  3. Open Hades again from the Start menu.

It opens, but asks me to sign in again

If you see Couldn't read the saved session followed by the reason and Please sign in again., the session stored on the computer expired or was cleared. That isn't a fault: sign in with the same email and password you use on the dashboard and tick Remember me on this computer. Forgot your password? The Forgot my password link is right below the password field: it opens the recovery page in your browser, with your email already filled in.

It opens, but the Start Call button is greyed out

  • The button reads Sign in to Hades to start — you aren't signed in. Sign in from the top bar with your dashboard account.
  • A line on the Ready for the call card says not chosen yet — pick Your microphone and leave Call audio on System audio.
  • Anything else on that card that you can't clear: message us on the chat below, because some of those cases are on our side, not yours.

Windows or the antivirus blocked it

During install, the blue Windows protected your PC warning is normal (Hades is a new app and Windows doesn't recognize the name yet). Click More info and then Run anyway. If you run an antivirus beyond the one built into Windows and Hades disappears right after installing, look for Hades in the antivirus quarantine and allow it.

None of that worked: reinstall

  1. Sign in to the dashboard, click your photo (or your initials) at the bottom of the left menu and then Download Hades (Windows).
  2. Open the downloaded file and go through the installer. You don't have to uninstall first — the new installer replaces the old one. Your account and your meetings live on the dashboard, nothing is lost.
  3. Open Hades and sign in with your dashboard email and password.

If you message us, send the log

Hades keeps a record of what happened while opening. With it we can fix things on the first reply.

  1. Press Windows + R, type %APPDATA%\Hades\logs and hit Enter. If it says the folder does not exist, try %APPDATA%\hades-copilot\logs.
  2. Attach the atualizacao.log file to the chat below, along with what was on screen when it froze.
